The Happy Glamper! My RV Makeover…

Scroll down to content

Hi Y’all!  Today I wanted to share with you a little home makeover project I recently completed.  It was probably the most fun and gratifying projects ever!  The space was a total of about 325 sq ft.and on wheels, and I am lucky enough to call it my home away from home on almost every vacation.

We purchased this travel trailer brand new in 2012 (See the inaugural post here!!).  We were driving from Calgary to Texas, and thought that it would be much more fun to just buy a trailer in Montana than hop from hotel to hotel.  We had always intended on buying a camper anyway so that we could comfortably camp with our two little girls, so we seized the moment and bought a 30 foot travel trailer for our adventure home.  #YOLO

What have we done

Now, this day five years ago, our trailer looked nothing like the  2018 version that you see now.  It was equipped more for a couple of old retirees than for a young family.  It was furnished with a pull out sofa, recliners, and a queen sized bed.  EVERYTHING was a shade of brown.  Here are the befores (brace yourself)…

Not at all the happy camper that I had envisioned traveling around in, but it worked okay for that first trip.

Once we got home we got to work giving this camper the makeover it deserved.  We painted the entire trailer a bright white, except for the lower cabinets, which we painted a blue.  This made everything seem so much lighter and brighter.

Camper Redo

We removed the recliners and sofa, which was a lot easier said than done.  Also, all of the valences and curtains (they actually buttoned to the walls) had to come down.  Then we were able to personalize the space giving it the happy modern vibe we wanted.

The space that the sofa was in was exactly the length of a twin mattress, so we ended up just putting an inexpensive Ikea mattress on a metal frame and making it into this day bed situation…

Tiny House

In place of the recliners, we added an Ikea Expedit shelving unit to hold the kids books and toys.

On the other side we added a vintage butterfly chair to have an extra spot to chill.

I think the butterfly chair immediately modernizes and elevates the space.  Perfect for posing too!

The colorful mix of textile makes the space so much more happy and youthful!

Trailer Makeover

Most of the textiles on the day bed above are from Target, but I am constantly switching them out with each trip.

This camper is hands down one of my favorite places to be no matter where it is parked. We LOVE having our tiny home, and I cannot wait for summer to have many more adventures.

Happy Camping!
